The Romans Country House - Conference Facilities

The Romans Country House Hotel is an elegant turn of the century Manor House, located between the M3 and M4, and just 45 minutes away from London, in the peaceful Hampshire/Berkshire countryside. Built around 1900, on land originally owned by the Duke of Wellington, the wealthy Newnham Davies family commissioned Sir Mervyn McCarthy, who at that time was the Keeper of St. Paul's, to design three houses in the tranquil village of Silchester as gifts for their children. In 1947 the then owners converted The Romans into a Country Club and called it Timber Tops, It wasn't until the late 1950s to early 1960s that The Romans, which was built in the style of the Lutyens, was sympathetically converted into a hotel, now privately owned by the Tuthill Family, the Romans enjoys a reputation for offering modern facilities whilst still retaining the atmosphere and period detail of an Edwardian Country House.
